House of Music

Orland Park, IL

Project Info

The House of Music in Orland Park had outgrown the house where the business originated in and was in need for a larger more accommodating facility. The resulting 3,150 square foot location became more than just a place to teach music lessons. It became a recording studio and a performance destination complete with stage, lighting, video, and acoustical elements. Bands can perform, jam, and practice their presentation skills in front of a live audience in addition to learning an instrument. The performance room is the centerpiece of the “house” and can hold 100 family and friends. Adjacent to the main stage is a recording studio that can be used to record the performances but also record private sessions in soundproof rooms. The private recording suite can accommodate a small band in one room and a singer in a separate room.

As expected, holding multiple private lessons arranging from piano, to guitar, to drums, to saxophone while trying to record a band can create an acoustically annoying environment, not to mention the need to isolate the adjacent bridal shop from vibration, a host of sound isolating elements were utilized to successfully contain the music to the room of origin.
